High Tea at Bacchus South Brisbane

The notion of high tea can be traced back to the early 19th century; when the 7th Duchess of Bedford would enjoy a pot of tea and a light snack with friends, during the afternoon as a pick-me-up before dinner. This popular practice spread throughout fashionable society and has become a timeless tradition carried through the ages.

High tea venues are becoming increasingly popular in Brisbane, each venue distinguishable by their special touch a-la-tea. The most recent addition to the scene proudly hosted by the award-winning poolside restaurant, Bacchus, at South Brisbane.

Bite-sized delights of savoury assortments orbit the centre of an elegant 3-tiered tray. Your fingertips and tastebuds will find it impossible to defy the gravitational allure of the smoked salmon and cream cheese buttery croissants; traditional sandwiches of egg and cucumber accompanied by an assortment of gourmet canapés – all guaranteed to line the stomach and lessen the guilt of the sinful pleasures to follow.

Extremely luminous - alike a supernova - emerges a 3-tiered tray of sweet treats bursting with sugary goodness, promising to propel your taste buds into an explosion of bliss. Éclairs filled with decadent chocolate crème pâtissière, cake du jour and zesty tart au citron are garnished with illustrious golden flakes; accompanied by French vanilla slices, vibrant-coloured macaroons and fruit scones served with a moorish Bonne Maman raspberry preserve and cream Chantilly.

Throughout the afternoon, you have the choice to sip on a glass of chilled Moët & Chandon or indulge in the plentiful flavours of exotic Harney and Sons tea imported from New York. My personal favourite is peppermint tea, which is a cooling carminative, with properties that help prevent and relieve digestive-related pain.
